Notes

Six plates with two different sets of hallmarks. The same backdrop was used in five of them. They show a man sitting cross legged, a woman with a child on her lap, another woman wearing an apron and an acorn dress. A boy with a basket of chopped wood, another boy possibly holding the same basket, and two boys in blue coats holding a flutina (an early French precursor of the diatonic button accordeon) with presumably their father behind them.

The custom made case is signed "A" on the bottom. The plates are hallmarked "A". It's possible there were also boxes marked B and C holding plates of B and C quality.

Inside was a note left by the previous buyer, a lawyer from Amsterdam, who wrote:

"Gekocht fotover(zame)ling Chartres 7 maart 1993. Ffr 2000 + 12% f750.

Omschrijving catalogus: Provenance de l'atelier d'un photographi Beanceron.

Catalog description: originates from the studio of a Beanceron photographer (Beance is a place in France. It's also possible Beanceron is the name of the photographer instead of the place.)

Unmounted daguerreotypes: portraits of the Anton (or Antoni) family , 80x70mm, circa 1850.

The text in the catalog is accompanied by a picture of the man and 2 children.
